Iligan City — City administrator lawyer Leo Zaragoza yesterday enjoined the vendors of the Pala-o market to transfer from the site they are occupying now to the temporary market the city has constructed at the Iligan City Bus and jeepney terminal at Tambo.

He added everything is being done to make this happen and non-stop work is made, like putting up electricity and giving it the drainage facilities.

There will be a new public market to be built in the Pala-o market with several floors in it and the bidding on its construction will hopefully be done by March this year, Zaragoza said.

He added the owner of the place which the vendors are occupying now, known as Bagsakan 2 at Pala-o has been asked by the city government for an extension.

“But they just gave a one-day extension, to the Jan. 31 deadline,” he said

Hence, the vendors must pack up by the end of the month or Feb. 2 at the latest, he added.

The owner, Melanio Siao of Lanao Milling has already signed up with an investor to occupy the place, he was told by the owner, Zaragoza said.

A vendor, who declined to give her name, told reporters that they are in a quandary whether they would transfer as the stalls being built there have very low ceilings and they might not be able “to breath properly there.”

The temporary market at the terminal for north-bound vehicles at Tambo is built initially at a cost of P40 million but it was learned that Mayor Celso Regencia is asking for another P15 million to really finish it which draw flak from his critics.
