Iligan City — Rep. Frederick Siao requested, in a letter to lawyer Anna Liza Barredo, Election Officer IV of the Commission on Elections here, to investigate the actions of some police officers who allegedly harassed his campaigners.
The letter, dated April 20, cited an incident on April 14 where his campaigners who were riding in a truck on their way to Sta. Elena barangay were told to alight, show their IDs, and then told to sign a log book.
This happened on the check points in the grounds of the National Steel grounds, it was learned. The police who flagged them were wearing masks in addition to sunglasses over them, Siao said.
When one of the campaigners asked by whose authorities were they flagged, the police answered, “by a high authority.”
Siao said one of his campaigners did not want to sign such log book but “was forced to sign anyway.”
The congressman added that they saw there were “no such protocols followed in the case of the campaigners of city mayor Celso Regencia and his ticket.”
The driver’s license of their truck was also photographed, even as a video was also made by the policemen, Siao said.
Siao added in his letter that one police officer remarked in Cebuano: “Samoka aning mga blue, oi!”
The ticket of Siao is also known as “solid blue” team.
Police officers, Siao said, should follow protocols and not indicate biased actions in favor of some candiates, “if we are to have clean and peaceful elections.”
