SUPPORTERS of Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte are organizing an island-wide caravan that would culminate in a rally here next week in order to “force” the politician to run for President next year.

Former South Cotabato governor Mike Sueno said he and other Duterte supporters decided to organize the Mindanao-wide caravan, and rally here because the Davao mayor has been sending mixed signals––one moment, he tells the public he has no plans of seeking the presidency; the next, he hints of a country under a Duterte presidency.  Sueno is the national chairman of PDP-Laban.

“Daghan kaayo nang mu-apil ani kay Mindanao-wide gud ni,” said Sueno.  He said the Mindanao caravan would likely show the extent of support of Mindanaoans for Duterte. Sueno said the rally would be staged at Gaston Park starting at 8:30 am on Aug. 22, six days before the city’s annual fiesta day. He said his group hopes that the “show of force” would make Duterte make up his mind about becoming a candidate for President next year.

“Modeklarar gyud kini sa iyang (Duterte) kandidatora sa September,” said Sueno. PDP-Laban chairman for Northern Mindanao Elmer Quillo said Duterte’s supporters from Cotabato, Davao, and other parts of the island would gather in Valencia City in Bukidnon a day before the Cagayan de Oro rally.

Raffy Abrogar, former regional director of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), said the group has invited former mayor Reuben Canoy to the rally.

He said PDP-Laban is mobilizing its members in Misamis Oriental and in this city. (nitz arancon)
