“THIS is a call to our Barangay Health Workers. Kaning mga trabahante sa barangay sila gayud ang mag-adto sa mga balay. This is a call to all BHWs to help our parents to inform nga dili na Dengvaxia ang itupok sa atong mga kabataan kun dili measles vaccination.”

This was the reaction of Councilor Edna Dahino, chair of the City Council committee on women and family relations, to the special report of Councilor Ma. Lourdes Gaane during last week’s regular session.

It may be recalled that Gaane reported on the measles situation in the city citing that there was already 78 cases and five deaths as per report of the City Health Office (CHO). The most number of measles cases recorded by CHO were in Barangays Carmen, Lapasan, Cugman and Balulang, she added.

Despite the rise of measles cases in the region, vaccines are enough and available for free at community health centers. Health officials have adopted three kinds of approaches in its immunization campaign. These include house-to-house vaccination. (sp)
