Gingoog City — Mayor Marie L. Guingona called for an immediate solution over the increase of fare matrix of motorelas from P7 to P9 as she talked in a jampacked crowd during the conduct of an emergency public hearing last Friday morning held at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Hall, this city.

Guingona said she received many complaints about the increase of fare of motorelas that operated in the city.

The lady mayor then called for another round of urgent discussion in a closed-door a dialogue with transport groups, representatives from the riding public, academe, and students to resolve the issue “as soon as possible.”

Guingona said she wants to arrive at a solution that will be amenable to both the riding public and the transport groups.

The public hearing was presided by City Councilor Jerome Mercado, chairman committee on transportation, with the presence of Vice Mayor Ruthie de Lara Guingona.

Mercado received several suggestions from the stakeholders.

The students, parents, and teachers appealed and suggested to reduce the fare matrix from P9 to P8.

Mercado said the increase of the fare matrix stems from a nine-year-old city ordinance which stipulates that there would be an increase of motorela fare of P1 every three years.

An appeal to delete the stipulation in the city tariff of motorela that obligates commuters with ages three to four years old to pay the regular fare.

After the dialogue, it was agreed that the new regular fare would be P9 and P8 for students and senior citizens as privileges.
