SURIGAO City — An estimated one hundred houses made of light material were razed to the ground by a fire in a slum area along Nueva Extension in Barangay Taft, here on Thursday afternoon.
According to the investigation of the city Bureau of Fire Protection, the fire started inside a house of a certain ‘Miranday,’ where the neighbors noticed that her kitchen was smoldering and after about a minute the fire spread to the neighboring houses.
The Bureau of Fire Protection had to raised the alarm to fourth alert status.
Meanwhile, the city police guarded the burning community because of reported looting during and after the fire.
There were no fatalities reported.
Department of Social Welfare and Development and some private individuals provided relief goods to the fire victims.
Some of the victims are now staying in the Barangay Gym.
