In an interview over the weekend, Jose Pantoja, city information officer, said Mayor Celso Regencia is still studying the matter as to who the next city administrator will be. He must be, among other things, be a lawyer, Pantoja added.

To recall, then city administrator lawyer Leo Zaragoza, after an uneasy stint beginning Dec. 28, 2018, had accepted the post offered to him by the mayor.

However, on July 2, he resigned saying “there might be some (people) who are in a better position” to help the mayor although he said that he still continues to support him and even would lawyer for him, when needed.

One such instance, he related, was the appointment of a tourism officer without his knowledge. The post he said was directly under his office and question why the one who drafted the executive order for the mayor to sign did not inform him.

He also hinted of corruption within which he said somebody there wanted to lease a dump truck for P600,000 when it could be leased for P100,000 even as he talked also of some expense at the city hall of P300,000 for dining expenses, when “wala may kaon nga nahitabo.”

Before Zaragoza became the administrator, lawyer Dexter Rey Sumaoy has been functioning as the temporary administrator, but now, he is also currently the city’s procurement officer.
