With more than half a billion pesos in budget proposed next year, the JR Borja Memorial City Hospital is targeting to elevate its status to a Level 2 hospital to improve its services to the city residents.

Dr. Ramon Neri, chief of the city-run hospital, said this as he explained the hospital’s long term plans to upgrade its facilities and operations during the latest marathon budget deliberations conducted by the City Council’s budget and finance committee.

The budget committee chaired by Councilor Edna Dahino also deliberated on the P216 million proposed budget of the City Health Office and the P180 million set aside for PhilHealth coverage of the city’s 60,000 beneficiaries.

Neri responded to a query by Councilor Edgar Cabanlas on the hospital’s capacity to service their patients who are mostly indigent families availing of free medical care.

Neri assured that given adequate city hall funding support, the city hospital can perform their mandate even if the city government plans to build an additional hospital. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
