The office even said is aimed to develop an integrated action plan for advancing the abaca sector in the province by looking upland areas where they can plant the most fine-looking abaca tissue culture in the region.

“Atong operasyonan karon atong tissue culture para sa Abaca. So, ang mga area nga upland nga walay mga tanom nga kakahoyan maoy atong tamnan,” said Pacamalan.

Taking into consideration these efforts, Pacamalan said the province is now targeting to have at least 50 hectares of land for abaca plantations that are expected to be sustained because of the certification for sustainability of abaca plantation is a requirement in foreign trade.

Pacamalan said the provincial agriculture can now produce 100 thousand abaca and they are aiming to double its planting materials by the end of 2019.

He said that for the last 10 years its price rises, as the Philippines is supplying the 85 percent of abaca at world market.

“Now our target is to make Misamis Oriental the number one producer of planting materials of abaca in the country,” said Pacamalan adding that in the next three years of office of Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, the Misamis Oriental would be recognized as top producer of the most fine-looking abaca tissue culture in Mindanao or even in the country.

He said that Misamis Oriental is now the fastest producer of planting materials of abaca in Northern Mindanao.

“Sa atong estimate kinahanglan pa kita ug around 50 to 80 thousand hectares of land for abaca plantation para moingon ta nga makuha nato ang 80 percent sa market (worldwide), so ingon ani kadako ang gikinahanglanon sa abaca,” Pacamalan said.

He also said that the demand is growing as he encouraged stakeholders and farmers whose farmlands have no plants yet to plant abaca.

Abaca’s tissue culture laboratory is in the town of Sugbongcogon, according to Pacamalan as they can visit the tissue culture laboratory in the said area.
