Envisioning Cagayan de Oro as a literary arts hub in Mindanao, writers collective Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (Nagmac) is set to officially announce its newest offerings: the monthly “Open Mic CDO” starting this month.

“In partnership with SM CDO Downtown Premier, Nagmac will organize Open Mic CDO monthly to serve as a platform not just for local writers but also for local musicians and performing artists as the event is also open for improv, musical acts, and others,” spoken word poet Adeva Jane Esparrago, Nagmac’s director for events management said.

This April, Nagmac’s indie press Bulawan Books will also launch two new chapbooks by young local writers — a collection of travel essays set in the southern Philippines by Nagmac member and senior fellow for essay Hazel Aspera, and a collection of lesbian memoirs and poems by Davao-based young writer and 2018 CDO Young Writers Studio guest panelist Ria Valdez.
