THE resolutions requesting Secretary Mark A. Villar of the DPWH, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), to hasten the completion of Mega Dike Flood Control Project was approved by the Cagayan de Oro City Council during its regular session .
It may be recalled that the committee on public works chaired by Councilor Zaldy Ocon discussed the request of the residents of Barangay Macasandig to facilitate the implementation of measures and the construction of the dike and similar infrastructures that will mitigate the life threatening floods that occur regularly. Residents said these causes gradual deterioration of their momentarily undamaged properties and make them more vulnerable to similar events in the future.
According to the residents, the devastation brought about by Typhoon Sendong in 2011 has left a trauma that manifests as fear every time there are heavy rains and typhoons. This fear, they said, is anchored on the fact that no mitigation measures are in place yet. (SP)
