COUNCILOR Jay R. Pascual, chair of the City Council committee on tourism, announced the various preparations for the upcoming annual celebration of the city fiesta, popularly known as Higalaay Festival.

The month-long festivity will be highlighted by colourful, culturally-rich and fun-filled core events that will culminate on the 28th of August, the feast day of the city’s patron saint, St. Augustine.

Activities include the Higalaay Agri Fair and Garden Show at Gaston Park, Aug. 3 to 4; Oro Photographic Society Launching at SM Downtown Premiere from Aug. 14 to 16 from 10am to 6pm, and Kumbira 2019 Culinary Show and Competition at Atrium, Limketkai Center.

To take place on Aug. 16 to 28 will be the Kahimunan Regional Trade Fair at SM City Uptown, while the Cagayan Festival Marathon at Centrio Ayala Mall will be on Aug. 18 at 3:00 am with the venue as both the start and finish point of the marathon, he further said.

The Higalaay Choral Competition is slated on Aug. 23 from 2 pm to 6 pm at the Activity Center of Centrio Ayala Mall, while the Cowboy Festival Cagayan de Oro Horse Show which will be held at the Roa Property in Uptown Cagayan de Oro has no definite schedule yet.

Meanwhile, the most awaited coronation night for Miss Cagayan de Oro 2019 will be held on Aug. 24 at 7:00 pm at the Atrium, Limketkai Center. Slated on Aug. 25 (6 am) is the 2nd Cagayan Dragon Boat Festival Race at the Marcos Bridge to Kauswagan. Later at 3 pm will be the Cagayan de Oro Carnival Streetdance Competition starting from Divisoria to Rodelsa Circle.

Other events include the 8th Mindanao Fashion Summit at the Activity Center, Ayala Centrio Mall from Aug. 26 to 28 at 3 pm; Higalaay Street Parade and Float Civic Military Parade which will start at Rodelsa Circle, Velez St., CM Recto Avenue to Limketkai Center on Aug. 27 at 7 am; Centrio Mall Bisperas Fireworks at Duaw Park, City Hall on Aug. 27 at 8 pm; a Religious Procession at Velez St., Capistrano St., San Agustin Cathedral on Aug. 28 (4 am).

On Aug. 28 at 9 am will be the Fluvial Procession starting from Macajalar Bay, Cagayan de Oro River, Cala-cala Macasandig to Duaw Park and at 8:30 pm will be the Higalaay Pyro Festival at Pueblo de Oro Business Park.

 “Hinaut unta nga pag-abot sa atong mga fiesta activities, please join and cooperate kay para man ni sa kabibohan ug para sa hapsay nga dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro,” Pascual said. (sp)
