Under the Plastic Regulation Ordinance, violators who will be caught red-handed will pay a P3,000-penalty starting Jan. 1, next year.

Dili customer ang multahan kon dili kadtong tindahan nga naghatag ug putos nga plastic sa ilang mga consumers,” Clenro Chief Engr. Armen Cuenca said.

Cuenca said his office will be the main implementer of the ordinance.

He said they have already started a dryun of the implementation of the ordinance in the malls this October.

In the dryun, malls in the city would not give customers plastic bags every Wednesday and Friday of the week.

Despite being a dryun, Cuenca said, the city’s garbage volume being collected by garbaged trucks has substantially decreased.

Dili pa namo masulti kon pila ka tonelada ang reduction sa basura kay bag-o pa man nagsugod ang dryun sa mga tindahan,” Cuenca said.

However, Cuenca said the Plastic Regulation Ordinance can only do so much to address the solid waste problem in the city.

“Plastic regulation ra man ning atong ordinance. Dili man gud total ban pag-gamit sa plastic bag,” Cuenca pointed out.
