Energy firm STEAG State Power Inc (SPI) sponsored recently a one-day seminar on Solid Waste Management (SWM) involving young leaders who belong to the Youth for Environment in School Organization (YES-O). The activity enabled participants to gain practical insights on managing solid wastes and how they can help address the problem. Data showed that on the average, a Filipino who lives in urban areas generates approximately 0.6 kilos of solid wastes a day. According to a World Bank study, this figure will increase by as much as 165% in 2025 unless effective strategies are put in place to curb the disastrous effects of mounting solid wastes. SPI’s communication officer Jerome Soldevilla (standing right) facilitated the seminar and served as resource person. (advt)
