Major Abdul Sumandar, Puerto police station commander, identified the suspect as Joy Cabahug, 39, a security guard assigned at Pepsi-Cola plant located at Tin-ao, Agusan, this city.

Cabahug shot the victim identified as Christopher Erana, 41, residing at zone 17, Sampaguita, Iligan city.

He sustained three gunshot wounds in the face and lower portion of his body that resulted in his death.

Puerto police arrested the suspect while about to pass a checkpoint along the road of the barangay in an attempt to make an escape.

It was learned that the incident stemmed from an old misunderstanding between the victim and the suspect while they were still assigned together in one of the establishments in Barangay Tablon.

A brother-in-law of the victim (who requested anonymity), and a fellow security guard of the victim and one of the witnesses of the killing, said the suspect might have harbored a grudge against Arana for the former’s strict implementation of company’s policies at the plant.

He said before the shooting there was a guard formation at the vicinity of the plant where the victim was giving instructions.

Minutes later, Cabahug excused the group, went inside the security headquarter and later returned and joined again to the group.

Ako siyang gatan-awon sir di siya gakahimutang. Unya milakaw diri agi sa akong likod milakaw padulong kang Arana ug kalit namusil gamit ang 9mm nga pusil,” the same witness said.

All the security guards scampered to different directions in fear of being the next target.

Nobody fired back the suspect as all their service guns were still inside the locker.

Some people who saw the incident recalled that after shooting the victim, the suspect shot him once more in the face using the same handgun.

Cabahug then rode a motorcycle and hurriedly left the place but fortunately, he was caught up by responding authorities.

Cabahug, who is now temporarily detained at Puerto police mini-cell is facing a murder case.
