THE City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes Gaane is looking into the complaint of a resident of Barangay Gusa regarding the alleged overcharging of hospital bills of a certain private hospital in the city.

She said the secretary of the doctor informed her that the eye operation costs P20,000 and referred her to a certain private hospital.

According to the patient, the whole package of the eye operation was not explained to her clearly.

She said she was shocked that her hospital bill reached P80,000.

A representative of the hospital said it is the policy of the hospital to always explain clearly to the patients the charges made in relation to the services availed.

The hospital management submitted its written explanation on the bill charges as reflected in the patient’s billing statement.

The committee requested the City Legal Office to submit its legal opinion regarding the complaint and will continue to discuss the matter during its next meeting. (sp)
