Iligan City — A councilor who served as this city’s vice mayor when Mayor Celso Regencia was serving his three-month suspension this year claimed there are irregularities in transactions of city hall and that he has documents to prove it.
Councilor Samuel Huertas told reporters Tuesday that his discovery came about as he was vice mayor in an acting capacity when Vice Mayor Jemar Vera Cruz acted as city mayor for the city for three months.
It can be recalled that Sandiganbayan slapped Regencia with a suspension order and came back to work only on Sept. 7.
He said he has documents to back up his allegations.
Huertas cited on committee hearing in the Sangguniang Panglungsod where the budget alloted was over P1,000 per person.
For his part, Vera Cruz denied the allegations saying “every thing is above board.”
Huertas now is in the ticket of incumbent congressman Frederick Siao who is running for reelection. Businessman Marianito Alemania is running against Regencia as mayor while Huertas is running against Vera Cruz for vice mayor.
