CAGAYAN de Oro City has more than a month to go to achieve the mandated vaccination targets set by the national government’s ‘Resbakuna: PinasLakas’ vaccination program, the City Health Office (CHO) said on Monday.

“From July 26 to Aug. 20, we administered the primary series of vaccines to 60 seniors or about 1.14 percent to raise our total so far to 81.45 percent…for 12 years old and older, we administered booster shots to 8,446 or 8.62 percent…the targets set by the government are 90 percent full vaccination of the senior population and 50 percent (12 years old and older) of the general population,” said CHO immunization program coordinator Dr. Ina Grace Chiu.

The ‘PinasLakas’ vaccination targets set on all local governments nationwide were in response to the national government’s goal to achieve Alert Level Zero in the country.

Alert Level Zero status means lifting all health restrictions such as wearing face masks and physical distancing from the public. The state of national public health emergency declared by former president Rodrigo Duterte expires next month.

A 100-day deadline was set for the ‘PinasLakas’ vaccination target starting last July 26 echoing the first 100 days of office of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and all elected officials.

“We have a target population of 5,261 seniors to reach the 90 percent target for seniors. And we still have 463 seniors that should secure their second dose whom we will visit next,” Dr. Chiu said.

About 38 percent of seniors secured their booster shots, Dr. Chiu said. For those aged 12 years old and older, Dr. Chiu said the city vaccinated 8,446 which makes them eligible for booster shots.

“The Department of Health (DOH) set a target of 97,930 for 12 years old and older,” she said.

For schoolchildren aged five years old to 11 years old, Dr. Chiu said about 10,153 are due to receive booster shots.

“That’s why we are reminding the parents to have their children secure their booster shots. We will text them on their schedule and we will give them until September 2 to secure their booster shots. If they were still unable to do this, then we’ll have to give the vaccines to those children who have yet to secure their first vaccine shots,” Dr. Chiu said.
