CAGAYAN de Oro City Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy reiterated his administration’s invitation to water service providers from the private and cooperative sectors to help the city supply the growing water needs of Kagay-anons.

“Especially in the central part of the city where the water supply is quite problematic. There are areas with inadequate water flowing out of their faucets while others don’t have water at all. That’s why we have to find ways to solve this problem and we cannot rely solely and wait on the (Cagayan de Oro Water District) to solve that problem for us,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

During his radio program last Friday ‘Ang Inyong Alagad: Mayor Klarex Uy’, he thanked the Mindanao Cooperatives Water Service (MCWS) and the Nahilaran Ancestral Domain (Indigenous Peoples) for setting up a water supply project that would service Barangays Dansolihon, Mambuaya, and Lumbia located in the city’s hinterland areas.

Uy attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the water supply system at Sitio Magawa, Barangay Dansolihon.

“The water supply is problematic there so with this water supply project we hope that it will answer the water needs of the residents there. (But more needs to be done),” Uy said while admitting that the city’s water supply ranks among the major challenges to his administration.

“I’m thankful for the cooperatives (such as MCWS) that are aware and have extended their assistance to the city in solving its water supply needs. And their assistance is invaluable in addressing our water supply needs,” Uy said.

The Uy family-owned water tankers have been servicing barangays during his tenure as congressman of the city’s first district.

In his first 100-day report, Mayor Uy said he instituted a water and sanitation council that would find ways to resolve the city’s water supply and drainage needs.

Uy said he also called on the 20th City Council to invite water service providers to service the city, particularly in Cagayan de Oro City’s central district and hinterland areas. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
