DIGOS City ― A flatbed truck whose driver was reportedly under the influence of liquor sparked a multiple-vehicle collision that transpired along CP Garcia Highway, Matina Pangi Diversion Road in Davao City on the evening of July 20.

Police Major Noel Villahermosa in a spot report claimed that eight different vehicles were involved in the accident such as a taxi, two motorcycles, a bicycle, three private vehicles, and the flatbed truck.

Police Corporal Bernado, the duty traffic investigator onboard Mobile Patrol Number 23 driven by Police Staff Sergeant Ducusin went to the area to conduct an ocular investigation.

Investigation revealed that at about 9:30 pm on July 20, the seven vehicles were traveling along the South bound lane of the highway en route towards Maa road while the flatbed truck loaded with steel bars ran in the opposite direction.

Traffic investigators said, the flatbed truck driven by Romel Manamatao Icalina, 39, a resident of Purok 5-A, Punong, Bunawan, Davao City swerved to the left side of the road and collided with the front of a Toyota Vios Taxi driven by Lito Alimasag Villaganto, 55, a resident of Purok-5, Kilometer 5, Matina Pangi, Davao City who at that time had a passenger identified as Roger Relacion Gemperona, 63, a resident of San Isidro, Matina Pangi, Davao City.

Due to the force of the impact, the truck dragged the taxi thereby hitting a motorcycle driven by Pamfilo Lupio Decena, Jr., 43, with a back-rider identified as Eugene Manong Paron, 28; and a bicycle driven by Noel Urbandozo Funa, 40.

The truck still dragged the vehicles along the road and hit the left rear portion of a Suzuki FU150 driven by Melshedeck Hope Caburnay Aranas.

As the truck driver maneuvered the vehicle for a left turn at Matina Crossing the steel bars fell to the ground thereby hitting a Toyota Fortuner driven by Ansary Julas Lazarte Naga, 32, and the Isuzu MU-X driven by Roy Gabisan, 45, the report further said.

The Isuzu MU-X turned sideways and the tailing Isuzu Highlander driven by Karl Vincent Jameliarin Demaulo also collided into the right side portion of the MU-X.

Emergency responders from Central 911 and Barangay Matina Crossing ambulance brought the taxi driver (Villaganto) and his passenger (Gemperona) to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for medical treatment.

The Honda XRM driver (Decena) and his back-rider (Paron) along with the bicycle driver (Funa) were also rushed to the same hospital for treatment of their injuries, the traffic investigation report said.

The police are yet to release its progress report of the incident.
