MISAMIS Occidental, a province in Region 10, has officially submitted a bid to host the prestigious Palarong Pambansa in 2026. 

This initiative, spearheaded by the whole province of Misamis Occidental and its three component cities of Oroquieta, Ozamiz, and Tangub, has garnered strong support from the 17 municipalities within the region.

The unified effort behind this bid aims to promote and enhance the  development among students, holistically as  articulated in the vision, mission, and core values of the Department of Education,  according to the Northern Mindanao Department of Education (DepEd) Assistant Regional Director Dr. Federico Martin.

Dr. Martin said the proposal to host the Palarong Pambansa in Misamis Occidental highlights the belief that this national sporting event goes beyond promoting physical fitness. 

According to the proponents of the bid, the event serves as a platform for character building and citizenship training for the youth. 

By emphasizing these aspects, the bid team hopes to create a positive impact on the overall development of students in the region.

Dr. Martin said leading the bid for Misamis Occidental is Governor Henry Sevilla Oaminal himself, demonstrating the province’s commitment to securing the opportunity to host the Palarong Pambansa in 2026. 

Governor Oaminal’s leadership in this endeavor underscores the importance of promoting sports and education as key components of student growth and development in the region.

Oaminal said the bid for hosting the Palarong Pambansa in Misamis Occidental reflects a shared vision among local officials and stakeholders regarding the significance of sports in nurturing the youth. 

He said the province’s focus on the holistic development of students underscores the commitment to providing opportunities for young individuals to excel not only in sports but also in character and citizenship.

Meanwhile, Deped Regional Director Dr. Art Bayocot said with the collective efforts of Misamis Occidental, including its component cities and municipalities, the bid for hosting the Palarong Pambansa in 2026 stands as a testament to the region’s dedication to promoting student welfare and development. 

Dr.Bayocot said the unity and collaboration exhibited in this endeavor symbolize a strong commitment to fostering a nurturing environment for the youth to thrive and succeed in various aspects of their lives.

In a statement, Dr.Bayocot commended the efforts of Misamis Occidental in bidding to host the Palarong Pambansa. 

He emphasized the importance of such initiatives in providing avenues for student growth and development, acknowledging the positive impact that hosting the event could have on the region’s youth.

As Misamis Occidental awaits the decision on the hosting of the Palarong Pambansa in 2026, the province remains hopeful that its bid will be successful.
