THE Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) representing various schools under the 10th Regional Community Defense Group (10RCDG), Reserve Command, Philippine Army delivered nine gold, five silver, and nine bronze medals in the Philippine ROTC Games Mindanao Regional Qualifying Leg, which ended on June 29, in Zamboanga city.

Jovaira Valle of the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines-Claveria Campus starred in 10RCDG’s gold hunt with four gold medals in swimming.

Valle ruled in the women’s 50m backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly and the women’s 200m IM relay. But, she fell short of dominating all 50m competition after she settled for silver in the freestyle category.

Julia Ray Capulac of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology bagged two golds after winning the arnis women’s full-contact padded and full-contact live stick.

“We didn’t expect that ROTC in Region 10 had hidden talents aside from school varsity and they showed their prowess,” said S7 10RCDG’s spokesperson Major. Rey Exequiel Escalera, who acknowledged the supervision of his superior Col. Luciano M. Caiman Jr. INF (GSC) PA.

PHINMA-COC’s Ian Mark Arses Baguasan and Joebert Yacapin also chipped in gold medals apiece in kickboxing men and boxing lightweight men, respectively. Anthonette Nunez of Tubod College also delivered a gold medal in shot put women.

Fathymary Cayang of PHINMA-COC bagged silver in the women’s chess blitz category and two bronze medals in the women’s standard and rapid categories.

Also providing silver medals for 10RCDG were Kirk James Luey Buslon in table tennis single’s men, Ian Jeffer Bayogan in boxing men’s lightweight, and Ridhel John Caderal, John Paul Racoma, Price Vincent Denapol and Marl Junel Racasa in the athletics 4×100 men’s relay.

Princess Andrea Yosores (arnis), Patrick Reburiano (taekwondo), Daisay Abalde (athletics), Justhen Catro (arnis), John Michael Paglinawan (boxing), Reymarl Gura (athletics) and the men’s basketball team gave a bronze medal each.

The gold and silver medalists will advance to the national leg on August 18-24 in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Two other target shooters Jaylou Madrid and Vhal Raphael Togores though they did not make it in the medal circle will also see action in the national leg in the target shooting competition.

“Top 10 in the target shooting competition are also qualified in the nationals,” said Escalera.

During the official opening of games, cadette Isha Nathalie D Galimba of USTP-Cagayan de Oro under the 1001st Community Defense Center (CDC) wowed the crowd by being awarded Miss Photogenic and Best in Athletic Attire, embodying both grace and athleticism.
