In her message, Omar said the turn over was realized through the unified efforts of all the people led by the barangay chairpersons of the 24 villages of her municipality.

The collection of the firearms was in response to the call of the Army to comply to Republic Act 10591 [An Act Against the Proliferation of Loose Firearms], she added.

She said these firearms are not really necessary in her municipality where there are no imminent threats to the town’s peace and order.

“Insurgency is not a problem and the people, Muslims and Christians are living harmoniously and peacefully together,” Omar said during the ceremony on Wednesday.

The firearms turned over to the AFP consisted of four M16 rifles, eight M1 Garand and Springfield rifles, one 7.62mm M14 rifle, three caliber 30 MI carbine rifles, one G5K Lugger, one KJ9 Lugger, one Ingram 9mm, eight 12 gauge shotgun, and three caliber 22 rifles, said Manalo.
