GINGOOG City former vice mayor and now mayor-elect Erick Cañosa on Monday vowed to review the city tax code particularly on business tax and the alleged high “P9” fare matrix on motorela which all imposed in the previous administration former city mayor Marie Guingona.

Cañosa said he received the complaints coming from the business communities, commuters and from the common people in the city.

Cañosa said the Guingona administration allegedly  imposed higher tax revenue collection on business tax without even consulting the people of Gingoog.

This paper tried to reach Guingona by phone yesterday for comment but couldn’t get through.

Cañosa said that almost 300% increase of revenue tax collection on business tax was being imposed by the previous administration for more than two more years.

“Ang nakasakit pud ani kay ang city treasurer dili motoo nga dili magpareho ang among halin matag adlaw naay mga adlaw nga hinay gyud kaayo, unta sa iyang gahimoon nga business assessment base rapud unta sa among kita,” small scale businessman in Gingoog revealed.

Cañosa said that he will take appropriate action on the matter as soon as he assumed office onJuly 1.

He added that he wanted to review the city tax code and will recommend to the coming city council for amendments.

Cañosa admitted that his move was part of the promises during campaign period.

He said he will also call all business sectors and other group in Gingoog and other group for a dialogue  to tackle down issues on business tax particularly the system on assessing business taxes which many were complaining.

Cañosa also assured that he will include during dialogue the possible of decreasing the  fare matrix of motorela from P9 pesos down to the original fare of P7 pesos.

The P9 pesos fare matrix of motorela, according to Cañosa where imposed by former mayor in the middle of campaign period.

“Kining tanan ako gyud hatagan sa igong pagtagad inig lingkod na nako isip mayor,” he said.
