Gingoog City — Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (Cenro) Conrado Mahinay, Jr of the Department of Environment Natural Resources based in this city has ordered the management of the wharf operating in Barangay Punong, this city, to stop its operation immediately.

The wharf has been used for barging sand and gravel and boulders from this city to Cebu with no approved permit yet from the Philippine Port Authority said Mahinay.

In a phone interview, Mahinay said he already signed the order on Monday telling the managenent of wharf to stop its operation immediately.

Atong gipadal-an ug letter ang management sa wharf pagpa-stop samtang ge-process pa ang application niini, said Mahinay.

Based on information, the wharf was already established and constructed with no clearances yet  from the Philippine Reclaimation Authority PRA said Mahinay.

Even its requirement for the application to established a wharf like foreshore and offshore permits are not yet approved from the DENR, added Mahinay

For his part, Gingoog City Mayor-elect Erick Cañosa said he received complaint of the construction of the wharf which has allegedly caused damaged to coral reefs and destroyed the fishing ground in the coastal area of Barangay Punong.
