The MAJORITY of the incumbent barangay chairpersons in 150 barangays, with an estimated voting population of around 170,000 throughout the Gingoog Bay Alliance (GBA), emerged as winners in the recently held Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30. This confirmation comes from GBA Chairman Mayor Rico Taray of Talisayan, Misamis Oriental.

The GBA comprises one city and four municipalities in Gingoog, including 79 barangays, Magsaysay with 25 barangays, Medina with 19 barangays, Talisayan with 18 barangays, and Balingoan with nine barangays, as Mayor Taray explained.

Mayor Taray further revealed that these barangay chairpersons have pledged to support Governor Peter Unabia’s leadership by providing public service. In addition to the reelected barangay officials, the newly elected barangay officials have expressed their support for the programs and projects of the provincial administration.

However, when asked about whether these barangay officials have committed to supporting Governor Unabia for a second term in the 2025 election, Mayor Taray did not provide a definitive answer.

He emphasized that the election is still a long way off, and the governor and other barangay chairpersons are currently focused on the development of their respective barangays.

Nevertheless, based on observations, it is highly likely that the majority of barangay chairpersons who won in the last election will continue to support Governor Unabia in the 2025 election.

Gingoog ABC President Robert de Lara also mentioned that he has received messages from both newly elected barangay officials and reelected officials pledging their support for Governor Unabia’s administration.

In a separate development, Leizyl Orcullo, the wife of Gingoog City Chief of Police Col. Cecilio Q. Orculio, emerged as the barangay chairwoman of Brgy Poblacion in Talisayan town of the province.

Gingoog City boasts the largest voting population with approximately 90,000 voters, while Balingoan has the smallest, with 9,135 registered voters, according to Mayor Taray.
