SUSTAINABLE tourism development proved to be the winning answer the judges picked from the five finalists of the Miss Kuyamis 2020 at El Salvador gymnasium, Thursday night.
Thus, answered Cagayan de Oro College Tourism Management
19-year-old student Isobel June Teaño of Opol town to the same question the
judges asked four other candidates who were picked as the top five to describe
tourism in Misamis Oriental at present.
“Tourism in Misamis Oriental is absolutely fantastic for me. As what Governor Bambi said… (the) 7th Kuyamis Festival is improving, and it really opened job opportunities, not just for the Misamisnons but the whole people of the Philippines as well… It’s not just all about tourism, it’s all about people, that sustainable tourism here in Misamis Oriental, and I think that’s what matters most to sustain the tourism,” Teaño replied to the judges.
At a young age, aside from preserving tourism, she is also
looking forward to connecting with the government to help uplift the lives of
single parents here. She said, “I will coordinate sa local government para
magtukod og livelihood programs, opportunities, and also health care para sa
mga (single) parents.”
Teaño bagged the major awards Thursday night, including the
Best in Swimsuit and evening gown competition.
She said she was willing to join national beauty pageants if the capitol gives her the privilege to represent the province.
Teaño’s court include 4th runner-up Ms. Alubijid Veronica Yvette Valdez; 3rd runner-up Ms. Gingoog Samantha Pauline Feranil; 2nd runner-up Ms. Talisayan Sheena Mae Balansag; and 1st runner-up Ms. Lugait Esel Mae Pabillaran.
Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, during his speech, said Mindanao is peaceful and is the right place for economic development and is right for tourism.
“The success of the Kuyamis Festival is not my success but the success of the people of Misamis Oriental. We aim for sustainable and all-inclusive tourism with Kuyamis Festival,” Emano said.
The new Miss Kuyamis search was part of the week-long festival that started Jan. 6 and ended today.
