COMING on their own without even wearing the Paglaum Sports’ official jersey uniforms, the Salay-Medina-Jasaan selection still managed to make Governor Peter ‘Sr Pedro’ M. Unabia and the province of Misamis Oriental proud of their performance.
This, as the wards of coaches Jun-jon Zambrano and Kimberly Ann Anto outlasted the Talaingods’ One Davao del Norte United inside the seven innings, 6-1 to bring home the 14-under boys title of the Little League Philippine Series 2024 Regional Tournament concluded on February 3 in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
“Sariling sikap lang gyod ‘mi sa team through solicitation para makaabot sa Malaybalay and maka-compete ang mga bata sa Little League Philippine Series,” coach Jun-jon Zambrano told Gold Star Daily.
Along with fellow coach Kimberly Ann Anto from Salay National High School, the whole team comprised of Zeus P. Yamit, Mc Khenly C. Salcedo, John Roy Cadeliña, Isa Carl Arriesgado, Troy Palejado, Dem Randal Oga, James Clay Augustine Aliwate, Ricky Ugiaban, Syd Tabingo, Kaizer Emmanuel Icayan, Khian Caplaya, John Mark Balacuit, and Martine Jamez L. Rementizo was overwhelmed that they just hurdled the big challenge en route to qualifying to the national finals set in Tanauan, Batangas this coming April.
To this, Medina town mayor Donato Chan, Misamis Oriental Chapter and Medina Baseball Club president Ricky Abao as well as Medina ABC president Emmanuel ‘Noli’ Pupos have pledged support to MisOr bets’ keenly-awaited campaign in Batangas National Finals.
“Puno sa kalipay ang Balay Lungsod sa Medina sa inyong kadaugan ug kamong tanan usa ka garbo sa atong pinalanggang Lungsod ingon man sa tibuok probinsiya sa Misamis Oriental.”
“Sa kanunay padayon nga maghatag ug suporta ang amahan sa atong Lungsod Mayor Donato N. Chan uban ang Inahan sa atong Lungsod – Madam Marriane L. Chan, Vice Mayor Paulo B. Magallanes ug mga opisyales alang sa inyong dugang nga kalamboan ug kaayohan,” said a letter from Medina-LGU in also congratulating the province’s champion teams in the Minor League Baseball (11 and under), Little League Baseball (12 and under) and Intermediate 50/70 (13 and under), including the third-placer in Senior League Baseball (16 under boys).
Learning of the Salay-Medina-Jasaan 14-under team’s struggle and predicament along with the triumphant Magsaysay Softball Girls, Paglaum MisOr Sports overseer Chrysostom ‘Tammy’ Cailing has vowed to bring the matters to Governor Unabia’s attention.
“Gawas nga wala nagduol, wala pud kita na-inform nga adunay mga atleta from Salay, Jasaan and Magsaysay nga mo compete in Malaybalay maong wala sila nalakip sa oniporme,” Cailing said.
During the victory celebration of Paglaum MisOr teams last Friday night at Casisang Central Integrated School in Malaybalay City, Mayor Chan reiterated in voicing out his all-out support to the local baseball and softball athletes in the company of US-based supporter Andy Aguinaldo.
“Nagkasinabot na kami ni Governor Unabia kabahin niini nga lakaw so, all the way na kita mga pinalanggang atleta. Eroplano kamo paingon sa Batangas then, barko pauli sa probinsiya aron kompleto ang inyong experience sa pag biyahe,” were the sports-loving Chan’s re-assuring words.
