AFTER pocketing the developmental Minor Baseball League 11-under plum, the Paglaum Medina-Misamis Oriental bets survived a big scare to secure the most coveted 12-under and 13-under titles in the ongoing Philippine Series Little League 2024 Regional Tournament in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.

The twin victories in the Little League 12-under and Intermediate 50-70 13-under assured the Governor Peter Unabia-backed Paglaum athletes a ticket to the National Finals to be hosted by Batangas City this coming April.

Nonetheless, they also served as a fitting gift to Misamis Oriental Chapter head and Medina Baseball Club President Ricky Abao who turned 56 today, February 2 at the Paglaum team’s billeting quarter in Casisang Central Integrated School.

Paired against their toughest rivals from Zamboanga, the Misamis Oriental athletes encountered rough sailing on rainy Thursday morning’s championship games over at the grassy Provincial Capitol grounds.

The Zamboanga kids waxed hot early in the 13-under tussle, racing to a 2-0 start, but quick adjustment on MisOr’s transition play eventually changed the complexion of the game as the Paglaum hopefuls retaliated to finish triumphant at 6-3.

Zamboanga also gained the upper hand, 4-3 in the 12-under scuffle when MisOr charged back to steal the lead, 6-4 before three deadlocks ensued at 6-6, 7-7, and 8-all.

On their last bat, the MisOr boys managed to score one but enough to seal the breathtaking win, 9-8.

The birthday celebrant, along with Paglaum baseball consultant and head coach Andy Aguinaldo, Statistics in-charge Cristina Patarata, Training Consultant Marcel Tagalogon, and Team Manager in Medina town mayor Donato N. Chan are optimistic that MisOr will also prevail in the 14-under boys baseball and 16-under girls softball championships still in progress amid heavy rains today, February 2 in two separate muddy fields.
